Long before modern production methods, jewelers carved rings by hand from wax stock like this. Ring tubes simplified the process by giving makers a centered starting point for bands, signets, bezels, and sculpted forms without wasting time roughing out a blank from solid material.

Blue wax is the more forgiving blend. Slightly softer and easier to shape than harder detail waxes, it cuts cleanly while remaining approachable for hand carving, rotary tools, files, and general jewelry work. It’s often the material new jewelers learn on, but still remains a staple in experienced workshops for practice models, organic forms, and rapid design iteration.
